Calling all Penguins to set Guinness World Record at homecoming
Youngstown State University will attempt to set a record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Penguins at an event on Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 28, on campus.
The event, which celebrates YSU’s 50th anniversary as a state university, aims to bring together students, alumni, employees and everyone in the greater Youngstown community to set a Guinness World Record for the largest ever group of human Penguins.
The existing world record of 624 is set by a group in England. YSU hopes to attract 1,000 participants.
The event is 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the WATTS center on campus. Costume distribution, dressing and the official Guinness counting will take place in the WATTS Center from 9 to 11 a.m. The two-hour time frame is a required commitment of participation.
Registration is $10 and includes a brand new, yours-to-keep penguin costume. After the official count, the Penguins will march up Fifth Avenue in the annual YSU Homecoming Parade.
