YSU promotes health and wellness through the Walk with a Doc program

Youngstown State University’s Bitonte College of Health and Human Services is continuing its commitment to public health by supporting Walk with a Doc, a free community wellness initiative.

The program, held at 10 a.m. at the Southern Park Mall, features YSU faculty members leading discussions on health topics before guiding participants on a walk.

Upcoming dates and topics sessions include:

  • March 13 – Good Activities at Any Age
  • April 3 – Keep Yourself Healthy
  • May 1 – Exercises for Osteoporosis
  • June 5 – Cataract Awareness

No registration is required, and all are welcome to join. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with healthcare professionals, ask questions and learn practical ways to improve their well-being through movement.

Walk with a Doc is a nonprofit started in 2005 by Dr. David Sabgir, a Columbus cardiologist. Initially aimed at helping patients increase physical activity, the program’s benefits go far beyond a simple walk. It provides a space to build friendships, spend time in nature and receive free health education.

According to the American Heart Association, walking 30 minutes a day can improve blood pressure, boost mental well-being and lower the risk of osteoporosis. For more information, visit walkwithadoc.org
