Internal audit, First-Year positions filled

The university recently filled two new positions on campus.

Sarah Gampo, a certified public accountant and internal auditor, is the new director of Internal Audit and Risk Management on campus. Previously, the position was contracted to an outside auditing firm.

Gampo, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kent State University, was previously senior internal auditor at Kent State, an auditor with FirstMerit Bank in Akron and a senior accountant with Cohen & Co. CPAs in Akron.

She said her role as internal auditor is to assess risk to the university’s strategy and operations and perform audits of high-risk areas. She said she currently is working on rolling out an anonymous ethics reporting hotline.

Meanwhile, Karen Becker, coordinator of the YSU Reading and Study Skills Center, is the new director of First-Year Experience on campus.

Becker came to YSU 20 years ago and has been involved in bridge programs, remedial education, teacher education and faculty development. She previously was a high school English and communications teacher and administrator and taught at several two- and four-year institutions in Ohio.

Danielle Mordocco is the new coordinator of the R&SS Center. Mordocco, a licensed school counselor who earned a master’s in Counseling from YSU in May 2016, was previously assistant coordinator for Project Pass in the Beeghly College of Education. She was a tutor in the R&SS Center as a student for five years.
