Free social media talks cover Instagram, Twitter, Facebook Live, Snapchat

Youngstown State University’s Department of Communication is sponsoring a Social Media Essentials Brown Bag Lunch series beginning Tuesday, Feb. 5, and running through the end of April.

Sessions are in the Ohio Room in Kilcawley Center, begin at noon and are free, but reservations should be made with department Chair Adam Earnheardt at acearnheardt@ysu.edu.

“We often receive questions from community members about social media basics and strategies, and if we have students available to assist them,” Earnheardt said. “Our social media track is designed to prepare students for careers in this area. In response to the questions we get about social media and our students, we’ve gathered local experts and our students to launch this new series.”

The Feb. 5 session is noon to 1:30 p.m. in Kilcawley Center’s Ohio Room and focuses on Instagram. The sessions features Jamie Jamison, a Communications instructor and an Instagram “influencer”, and Lori McGlone, who directs social media accounts for White House Fruit Farms and owns McGlone Media LLC.

Additional events in the series include:

March 5: Twitter. Kati Hartwig, a graduate of the YSU master’s program in Professional Communication, is coordinator of social media and digital marketing at YSU and an expert on all-things Twitter.

March 26: Facebook Live. Dennis Schiraldi, founder of DOYO Live, is a social media instructor at YSU who has produced Facebook Live videos on social media marketing.

April 30: Snapchat. Ryan McNicholas, assistant director of marketing for Fitness and Wellness in YSU’s campus recreation program, will present a session on Snapchat.
