Residence Life Programming Graduate Assistant

The Graduate Assistant Intern (GAI) for Housing & Residence Life assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of Housing & Residence Life’s Living Learning Communities. The Graduate Assistant Intern for Residential Education also assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of Housing & Residence Life’s programming and education initiatives.

Specific areas of responsibility may include, but are not limited to:

  • RA Training
  • NEOHO RA Drive-In Conference Preparation
  • All major programs: including help with planning, logistical setup and day of event support and supervision of work teams. Serve as a liaison between Housing & Residence Life and other campus agencies to facilitate collaborative programming and education.
  • Assist with implementation of Living Learning Communities, advising of LLC RAs, and planning and implantation of programming.
  • Assist with Residence Hall Association and Hall Councils, as applicable with Residence Hall Association as applicable.
  • In-Hall Tutor Monitor
  • Housing Collateral Assignments

Additional areas of responsibility include:

  • Attend professional and paraprofessional staff meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Represent Housing at orientation information sessions.
  • When needed - Participate in on call duty rotation taking approximately one evening a week and one weekend a month.

SUPERVISION: Program Coordinator

HOURS: Approximately 20 hours per week.

TIME OFF: All University breaks and holidays; Fall Semester: July 15, 2019 through December 20, 2019; Spring Semester: January 6, 2020 through May 15, 2020

During these times, the Graduate Assistant is expected to reside on campus (if applicable) and fulfill their job responsibilities. Any additional time off requested by the Graduate Assistant must be approved through their direct supervisor and in some cases through the Director of Housing and Residence Life.

CONTRACT DATES: July 15th through May 15th. (Summer work may be available)

REMUNERATION: $12/hour for up to 25 hours per week. Room and board may be furnished upon request and only if space is available. Additional payments for time before and after academic appointment as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree, full-time enrollment as a first year Counseling and Student Affairs graduate program at Youngstown State University. Experience in Housing & Residence Life as an undergraduate and/or experience with educational programming or philanthropic services preferred.
