YSU Youth Orchestra Concert

Area high school and middle school students in the YSU Youth Orchestra will perform a concert on Monday, December 6, 7:00 p.m. at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave. Youngstown. Ticket prices are $5 or free for children under 12 and those with a valid YSU ID. Formerly the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra, the group is now sponsored and supported by the Cliffe College of Creative Arts and the Dana School of Music. Open to students ages 13-18 by audition, the group is under the direction of Michael S. Butler, Orchestra Director; Michele Prokop, Symphonette Orchestra Director and Richard Smrek, Orchestra Associate Director. Thirty-one students in the middle school Symphonette will perform Ukrainian Bell Carol, Don’t Stop Believin’, Jingle Bell Rock and We Wish You a Merry Christmas, among others. Members of the 70-plus student Orchestra will perform Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Pilsner’s A Light in the Ocean and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “New World”.
