Why Communication

Why Communication, Journalism or Telecommunication at YSU

  • Students have chances to network and build their resumes through student groups and activities such as the Jambar (the student newspaper), Jambar TV, Rookery Radio, Penguin Rundown, Lambda Pi Eta, and Penguin Media Works.
  • Many of our courses require students to complete projects that provide hands-on experiences that enhance your learning and help you develop the knowledge and skills demanded by employers.
  • Our students are active in a variety of professional organizations and participate in networking events, competitions, and regional and national conferences.
  • Bliss Hall, the home of our Communication Studies, Journalism and Telecommunication Studies majors, includes a full television studio, classroom, audio production facilities, faculty offices, and student group work spaces. The first floor of Meshel Hall houses our high-tech classrooms, podcasting studio, and a student computer lab.
  • The Payiavlas Classroom in the Don Constantini Multimedia Center opened in 2019. The new multimedia center is located at YSU’s Stambaugh Stadium. The facility serves as a production space for sports broadcasts on ESPN3 and classroom space for the Telecommunication Studies and Sports Broadcasting programs.\
  • Academic Advising is offered through the WCBA Student Services Center and internship and full-time job search assistance is available through our WCBA Center for Career Management
