Faculty Led Study Abroad
YSU faculty members lead students on study abroad experience to countries all over the world, such as San Salvador in Bahamas, YSU's longest-running FLSA experience, Scotland, Japan, and more.
Faculty-led trips allow students to experience a faraway place under the leadership and direction of a YSU faculty member with expertise in the discipline and the destination. Trips are also shorter than traditional study abroad experiences, typically lasting a week to 10 days.
Students who have recently traveled on FLSA trips share that these experiences have shaped their educations in significant ways.
Experiencing Island Life in the Bahamas
"Travelling to San Salvador Island was an enriching experience that I was able to get through the faculty-led study abroad program. While there, I was able to learn so much about the culture, history, and people. I knew that I wanted to experience a new place while I was in college and this trip was exactly what I needed!”
~Gabe Perrotta, YSU Biology Major
Performance of a Lifetime at the Fringe Festival in Scotland
My future career goals are to perform, write, and teach. The experience has already helped prepare me by giving me my first professional/ international credit to list on a resume. It also gave the experience of what it is like working in a professional production.
I learned so much through this experience such as how to put together a show in a short amount of time, what it is like performing in a show that is still being workshopped and worked on, how to promote yourself, how to prepare your body for performing for 10 days in a row, how to perform a role that is outside my usual range of characters, how to work with professional directors and writers, how to get your show to the Fringe Festival, the importance of networking, and more!
