English MA

Whether you're interested in advancing your expertise in literature and language or in writing and editing, our English master's program allows you to customize your studies to forward your goals.

What You'll Study

In the Master of Arts program, you'll explore a variety of approaches to the study of literature, language and writing to develop your abilities as a critic, writer and teacher. Courses offer in-depth study in the areas of:

  •  Literature research, history and theory
  •  Genre and figure studies
  •  Creative and professional writing
  •  Linguistics and composition theory
  •  Film
  •  Teaching of writing and literature

With small class sizes, you'll take advantage of strong, one-on-one relationships with our expert English faculty, who focus on bringing students a thorough understanding of both the traditions of literary study and the latest multicultural and interdisciplinary approaches.

Most importantly, the program prepares you to pursue new opportunities in teaching, writing or doctoral study, with a customizable curriculum to meet your goals.

All English graduate students take at least one theory or methods course and one language, discourse or writing course. A thesis or graduate portfolio is also required by the end of the program.
