What You'll Study

The master's program in Health and Human Services is designed to be a collaborative learning experience that focuses in health care and business administration. You will acquire the skills and abilities needed to hold supervisory and managerial positions while also learning competencies in health promotion and methods in the health care community.

You will take a combination of core courses in tools, management skills and issues in health and human services before choosing between one of four tracks.

The online Master of Health and Human Services program consists of 30-36 semester hours of graduate coursework. There are two areas of coursework in the MHHS: an academic core and a specialty track. A thesis or non-thesis option is available with each track.


The academic core consists of 18 semester hours A total of 12-13 semester hours of coursework is devoted to a specialty track in health promotion, health care administration, and health informatics. Each track offers a thesis or non-thesis option. The non-thesis option in the health promotion, health care administration, and health informatics track requires the student to complete an internship, which is called a practicum. The thesis must be submitted according to the general requirements established by the School of Graduate Studies and Research. The student is required to defend the thesis in an oral presentation before a committee of graduate faculty from a minimum of two academic disciplines.


The health care administration track has a health services executive (HSE) option. For those who wish to sit for NAB licensure, they must complete a 1,000 clock hour Administrator in Training (AIT) and take the internship option for 6 semester hours to be eligible.

  • Administration for Health and Human Services Track

    This track includes courses on program planning and evaluation, planning and fiscal management, and a research seminar. You also have the opportunity to choose between a thesis or internship component.

    Curriculum

    PENDING NAB ACCREDITATION: The health care administration track has a health services executive (HSE) option. For those who wish to sit for NAB licensure, they must complete a 1,000-clock hour Administrator in Training (AIT) and take the internship option for 6 semester hours to be eligible. 

  • Health Informatics Track

    Courses within the Health Informatics track include clinical informatics, health care systems analysis, planning and fiscal management, and your choice of a thesis or internship practicum.

  • Health Promotion Track

    Students following this track take foundations in planning, implementation, and evaluation and a research seminar. You will also choose between a thesis or internship practicum.
