Middle Childhood Education Major
Learn how to approach teaching students ranging from upper elementary grades to junior high school and how to meet their varying educational needs through our Middle Childhood Education major.
What You'll Study
Your coursework will begin with a First-Year Experience course that will provide you with everything you need to know about the Middle Childhood Teacher Education program. You'll also have opportunities early on to gain practical experience in tutoring elementary children.
Outside of your general courses, you'll pick two concentration areas to sharpen your expertise in a specific discipline. Choose from the concentrations of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.
Other courses will allow you to spend time in the schools observing, co-teaching and leading lessons on your own. The culminating experience is a semester-long student teaching placement in a local school system.
