Integrated Social Studies Education Major
The Adolescent/Young Adult Integrated Social Studies license prepares you to teach in grades 7 through 12 in junior high school and high school.
What You'll Study
The Integrated Social Studies Education major is designed to prepare you to teach social studies in secondary schools. In this program, you'll get an overview of the disciplines that make up the social sciences in order to teach them in your very own classroom.
In this program, you will concentrate on geography, history, political science and economics coursework. Your coursework will begin with a First Year Experience course that will provide you with everything you need to know about YSU and the Integrated Social Studies Education program. You will complete an Introduction to Education class where you will have an opportunity to tutor high school students.
Other studies will allow you to spend time in the schools observing, co-teaching, and teaching lessons on your own. A preclinical experience occurs prior to student teaching where you spend over 100 hours in your content area. The culminating experience is a semester-long student teaching placement.
