Prof researches concussion assessment in Zambia

Jessica Wallace, YSU assistant professor of Kinesiology and Sport Science and director of the Master of Athletic Training Program, traveled to Africa recently to help develop concussion assessment, evaluation and treatment for Zambian premiere league soccer athletes.

Wallace and MAT student Kelsey Wallace are pictured with the Nkwazi Football Club following a team training session and baseline concussion testing. The research team visited seven Lusaka-based premiere league teams.

The project in partnership University of Zambia Teaching Hospital and the Football Association of Zambia aims to develop concussion test measures for Zambian athletes and to develop a concussion protocol.

Wallace first traveled to Zambia in 2016 to provide concussion training sponsored by the International Olympic Committee and National Olympic Committee of Zambia.
