Youngstown State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. As the chief academic officer, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for shaping and implementing YSU’s new strategic plan and providing strong leadership that supports faculty professional development, stimulates academic excellence, enables student success, promotes regional engagement, and helps foster a welcoming and inclusive campus.

Founded in 1908, Youngstown State University, a comprehensive, public, not-for-profit institution, is a major driver of the region’s economy and plays an enormous role in the educational, financial, and social well-being of Northeast Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, and beyond. Now entering its 12th decade, Youngstown State University remains committed to increasing excellence in all that we do and to providing the leadership and opportunities needed to make our region a better place to live, learn, and succeed.

The provost leads the Division of Academic Affairs which includes the Office of Academic Affairs; Williamson College of Business Administration; Bitonte College of Health Sciences and Human Services; Beeghly College of Education; College of the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; Cliffe College of Creative Arts and Communication; College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; the Graduate School; Honors College; Office of International Programs and the Office of Assessment.

Having consulted the campus after his arrival in 2014, President James P. Tressel implemented an aggressive strategy to increase enrollment, enhanced the physical attributes and infrastructure of the campus, reinvigorated a marketing and communications strategy, established the Honors College, and created the partnership situating the Mahoning Valley Innovation Center as an exemplar in additive manufacturing that has a close collaboration with America Makes, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute.

Unlike other institutions in the region, YSU’s new student enrollment has increased each year for the last four years. This trend has been accompanied by improved academic preparation and retention of the incoming classes. Degree-relevant job placement is a high priority facilitated by high impact practices including experiential- and service-learning, study abroad, and research.

This position is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with the appropriate credentials and experiences to join a leadership team and a campus that is focused on advancing the university to even greater levels of accomplishment and excellence.
