GRADUATE ASSISTANT INTERN

The Graduate Assistant Intern (GAI) at the Resch Academic Success Center, Accessibility Services is responsible for providing academic coaching and support to at-risk students with disabilities. Working under the supervision of the Center's staff, GAI will assist in fostering a supportive learning environment, motivating students, and facilitating their academic success. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, a passion for student development, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Academic Coaching Duties

  • Conduct weekly academic coaching sessions with at-risk students, with a caseload of up to 60 mandated students for the fall semester and up to 60 for the spring semester.
  • Employ appreciative advising techniques to establish rapport with students and create a  supportive coaching relationship.
  • Motivate students to comprehend the fundamentals of learning and apply them to their academic pursuits. 
  • Monitor the faculty alert system and proactively follow up with students to address concerns and provide support
  • Utilize texting systems for outreach, appointment reminders, and post-appointment follow-up to ensure effective communication with students.
  • Shares campus wide information with students. 

Administrative Duties

  • Assist in coordinating the Autism Social Group
  • Writes recommendation reports for student caseload
  • Generate assessment reports to evaluate the effectiveness of academic coaching strategies and interventions
  • Provide bi-monthly staff reports to the supervisor, highlighting progress, challenges, and successes.
  • Track student outreach activities, contacts and referrals to maintain accurate records and facilitate continuity of support.
  • Manage and share an electronic calendar to coordinate appointments and scheduling efficiently.
  • Enters data in Banner system
  • Other duties as assigned (presentations, campus events, special projects)
  • Assists with by providing accomodations such as reading and scribing tests.

20 hours per week/ Salary: $7500 (August 19th, 2024 through May 3, 2025)
