Remuneration: Tuitions remission and a $7,500 stipend during the academic year (paid in bi-weekly increments). Graduate Assistants also receive fringe benefits including tuition for up to 18 semester hours in the fall and spring semesters. The non-resident surcharge and parking permit fee are also remitted.

Five additional hours of employment are also available weekly at the discretion of the supervisor. The rate of pay for this is $11.25 per hour.

Position Start/End Dates:  One week prior to the term beginning for both fall and spring semesters. This posting is currently a one academic year (fall and spring) appointment only, with possible extension.

Is summer student employment available?  Yes, Graduate assistant can also receive tuition remission for up to 12 semester hours in the summer term, but only if they held an appointment in the proceeding fall or spring term and performed their duties satisfactorily.

Hours requirements: Qualified applicants must be able to work 20 hours, primarily during the hours of 8am-5pm, and be available occasional evenings and/or weekends during Kilcawley Center’s events.

Job Description:

The Programming/Reservations Graduate Assistant works with the Kilcawley staff to create large and small programs for YSU students throughout fall and spring semesters. Programs include but are not limited to Kilcawley Block Party (welcome event), Red and White Day (Homecoming spirit event), Cove craft, trivia, and gaming or similar weekday activities, Family Day (division-wide event), Penguin Nights (semesterly, late-night event) and Penguin Preview Day (YSU recruitment event).  
Also, the Programming/Reservations Graduate Assistant works within the Kilcawley staff office, working in EMS (Event Management System) assisting clients with room reservations for meetings,events, conferences, etc to be held in Kilcawley Center. Also, work to assist with the operation of the Kilcawley Center front desk. 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Programming | 60%

  • Brainstorm program ideas 
  • Assist in setting calendars for department programs 
  • Plan specific aspects of programs including invitations, marketing, decorations, logistics, signups, volunteers, food, entertainment, contracts, venues, vendors,  
  • Attend and assist in running planning meetings 
  • Communicate with committee members and other stakeholders about plans, etc. 
  • Work with set up crew to ensure that event needs are met. 
  • Collaborate with campus departments and student organizations for programming initiatives 
  • Assist in management of program budgets 
  • Keep records of program plans and outcomes 
  • Assess program outcomes via surveys and other methods 
  • Create ways to increase student engagement (through marketing, etc) 
  • Attend and manage day of show operations for all events. 
  • Troubleshoot unforeseen situations  
  • Serve as point of contact as needed   
  • Provide excellent customer service 
  • May be required to drive University Vehicles to conduct University Business on behalf of Kilcawley Center Student Union. 

Event Scheduling/Office Operations | 30%

  • Assists in event scheduling, working in EMS (Event Management System) for all Kilcawley Center meetings, events, conferences, etc. 
  • Assists in the daily operations of Kilcawley Center staff office including front desk, reservations, and events/programming.  
  • Assists in the hiring, training, scheduling and development of student staff employed at Kilcawley Center front desk. 

Other | 10%

  • Attend all staff trainings, staff meetings and professional development workshops/lectures. 
  • Create and maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all Kilcawley Center patrons and Kilcawley Tech customers 
  • Perform other duties as assigned
