STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Youngstown State University strives to achieve a welcoming, safe, equitable and inclusive campus climate for all students, faculty, staff and visitors to learn and work together in alignment with the University’s mission and policies. Our campus community is enriched by the presence of people of different abilities, ages, colors, creeds, cultures, races, ethnicities, gender identities, gender expressions, political views, religious, spiritual, and philosophical beliefs, sexual orientations, socioeconomic statuses, educational backgrounds and veteran statuses.
Inclusion and Awareness helps us understand that we all benefit from the unique strengths and perspectives of others and to appreciate the diversity among us for a just and equitable society. Understanding one another will help us overcome and prevent societal divisions.
The Inclusion and Awareness Committee (IAC) is formed to:
- Identify practices or policies that may marginalize members of our campus community.
- Advance University policies, practices and resources designed to support and enhance a diverse, inclusive and equitable campus.
- Advocate for shared responsibility throughout campus for the development and implementation of inclusive practices, policies and facilities.
- Promote programming and collaboration that broadens inclusiveness and equity.
- Engage with members of the University Community in inclusion and diversity efforts and programming.
- Develop a yearly Inclusion and Equity Action Plan with measurable primary and secondary goals to cover the period from July 1 through June 30.
- The Inclusion and Awareness Committee as a University Standing Committee will report directly to the Board of Trustees at least once per year.
