Bio

Mary Beth Earnheardt, Ph.D., is the chair of the Department of Communication at Youngstown State University. In addition to her duties as Chair, she is also a professor in the Anderson Program in Journalism. She resides in Youngstown (Liberty Township), Ohio with her husband Adam and four children.

Research Interests

She has published articles and book chapters on a diverse array of subjects including war reporting, political motives, and the First Amendment.

Teaching Interests

Mary Beth has taught a wide variety of journalism and communication courses including communication law, journalism history and content creation.

      National Society for Collegiate Journalists Mary Beth Earnheardt Award for Outstanding Chapter Service

      This award was named after Dr. Mary Beth Earnheardt, the first female president and first female executive director of SCJ. The Earnheardt Award was presented to for the first time in Fall 2016.
