Dr. Kathleen CripeM. Kathleen Leslie Cripe, Ph.D. is currently an Associate Professor and Chair in the Teacher Education and Leadership Studies Department at Youngstown State University.  She has been in this position for the past year and has taught in the TELS department for the past 11 years.  Previous to that appointment, she spent two years as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Education at Walsh University, North Canton, Ohio. Kathleen received her B.S, in Combined Science (Chemistry, Biology, and Physics) from Youngstown State University as well as, her M.S. in Analytical Chemistry.  She obtained her Ph.D. in Science Education from the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio.  Kathleen taught numerous undergraduate and graduate courses in both the teacher preparation and chemistry departments.  Her expertise is science methods courses for preservice teachers in early, middle and AYA programs and general /organic chemistry for the nursing program.  Kathleen has been a presenter at local, state, regional and national conferences and has published numerous academic articles related to STEM education and Pre-service teachers’ perspectives of urban schools.  

Prior to her Ph.D. work, Dr. Cripe taught Chemistry and Physics at Ursuline High School for 13 years.
