How to Register with Disability Services at YSU

Registration Process

The Resch Academic Success Center, Accessibility Services, provides support to students with physical, medical, learning, hearing, visual and psychological disabilities. We work in conjunction with students and faculty in the process to establish accommodations, services, and access to academic programs. We strive to create an accessible community where people are judged on their ability, not their disability. We are also committed to fostering a positive attitude toward individuals with disabilities. The AS office works in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the ADA Ammendments Act of 2008.

Acccessibility Services works with the student to determine what accommodations are needed to achieve accessibility in their courses. There is a two step process in registering with the office:

  1. Provide Documentation: Students requesting accommodations may be required to provide documentation of their disability. There are guidelines for documentation and a documentation form, if needed, is available from our office or on our website: https://ysu.edu/academic-success-center/accessibility-services

  2. Schedule a registration appointment: During this appointment, you will meet with a Coordinator to discuss your accommodation needs and review how to access the your accommodations and the AS Policies and procedures. We will also discuss the many resources of the University that you may find helpful during your college career.

Each student is assisted on an individual basis. The services available are matched with the needs of the student.

Students requesting accommodations may be required to provide documentation of their disability. There are guidelines for documentation and a documentation form, if needed, available from our office or on our website . Please contact us if you have questions or need assistance in determining what type of documentation is acceptable.

2. Schedule Appointment

3. Attend your Registration Meeting

During the meeting, we will discuss your documenation, accommodations you have used in the past, accommodations you need in college, and how to access them.

After your meeting and/or at the beginning of each semester:

1. Request AS Send Your Accommodation Letter to Your Professors

Students can request AS send their Accommodation Letters to their professors starting the week before classes begin each semester. There is a link on the AS website: Students Registered with Accessibility Services that has videos and instructions on how to use the Accommodate system.

2. Discuss your accommodations with Your Professors

Email your faculty, go during their posted office hours, or make an appointment to meet with them to discuss the accommodations you will need in their class.

3. Schedule Your Exams online or in Person

If you receive testing accommodations and want to take your exam at Accessibility Services, make sure you schedule your exam at least 72 hours in advance to guarantee your space and so we can request a copy of your exam from your professor. Directions on how to fill out a test request are on our website.
