What You'll Study
The associate program is designed to prepare you to be able to provide nutritional care for individuals and families.
Dietetic technicians often work in hospitals, schools, nursing homes, long-term care facilities, day care centers and government agencies. You will be helping to plan and prepare meals for individuals with special nutritional needs, with daily tasks assisting the registered dietitian that might include:
- Translating nutritional needs into an acceptable meal plan with consideration of psychological, sociological and economic factors;
- Teaching the principles of nutrition and their relationships to health and diseases, and suggesting strategies to apply those ideas;
- Managing food service systems to ensure the client receives optimal nutrition and high quality food;
- Preparing the registered dietician for professional practice.
