Sunday, Oct. 4. 2 p.m. Annual Nonviolence Parade and Rally starts at the Williamson College of Business on Wood Street on campus and concludes with a rally in the Covelli Center parking lot downtown. Sunday, Oct. 4 through Wednesday, Oct. 7. Seven piano concerts and recitals are featured as YSU’s Dana School of Music and the University of Akron’s Kulas Concert Series host a collaborative piano festival. Schedule. Civil rights leader and peace activist Minnijean Brown Trickey, one of the Little Rock Nine who defied threats to attend an all-white high school in 1957, will be on the campus to screen a documentary on her life. “Journey to Little Rock: The Untold Story of Minnijean Brown Trickey” will be screened 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. An abbreviated version of the documentary will also be screened 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 in McKay Auditorium in the Beeghly College of Education on campus. After each screening, Brown Trickey will be available to take questions. More information on event. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 12:15 p.m. The Dana School of Music presents a piano recital as part of the weekly Music at Noon series in the Butler Institute of American Art. Free. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Arts Mean Business, a free professional development series designed to help artists thrive, continues with “Copyright and Contracts for Arts Professionals” in the McDonough Museum of Art on campus. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 7 p.m. Elena M. Krieger, director, Renewable Energy Program, Physicians Scientist and Engineers for Healthy Energy, lectures on “Towards a Renewable Energy Future: Integration Strategies and Technical Hurdles” in Cushwa Hall Room B100. The lecture, free and open to the public, is part of the YSU Speaker Series on Energy and the Environment.
Thursday, Oct. 8, 7 p.m. Nathan Wolfe, the “Indiana Jones” of virus hunting, presents YSU’s Skeggs Lecture in Stambaugh Auditorium on Fifth Avenue in Youngstown. The lecture is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and are available at the Stambaugh Box Office. Friday, Oct. 9, 3 p.m. “An Interplay Between Abstract and Applied Math,” presented by Luis Núñez-Betancourt, a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Virginia, in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center. Friday, Oct. 9, 4 p.m. Musicologist Lisa Jakelski from the Eastman School of Music lectures on “New Music on the Move: Cultural Mobility at the Warsaw Autumn Festival” in Bliss Recital Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9, 10 and 11. YSU Theater kicks off the 2015-16 season with the musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” in Ford Theater in Bliss Hall. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday matinee performances are at 2 p.m. The show also runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16, 17 and 18. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9 and 10, 8 p.m. YSU’s Ward Beecher Planetarium shows “Fall Skywatch.” The planetarium also shows “Exploring New Horizons” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Saturday, Oct. 10, 1 p.m. YSU soccer takes on Green Bay at Farmers National Bank Field on campus. Saturday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m. Illinois State comes to Stambaugh Stadium in a MVFC football clash against the Penguins.
