Dana Symphony Orchestra in concert at DeYor Performing Arts Center

The Dana School of Music announces a concert, “Beethoven’s Fateful Fifth!” by the Dana Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Director of Bands & Orchestra/Professor of Music Stephen L. Gage, Thursday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Edward W. Powers Auditorium, DeYor Performing Arts Center, 260 West Federal Street, Youngstown OH 44503.

The program will open with Johannes Brahms' most frequently performed work, Academic Festival Overture. Following the Brahms’ piece, a chamber ensemble from within the larger orchestra will accompany soloist Mezzo-Soprano Erika Walker, on the second and fifth movements of Gustav Mahler's classic, Kindertotenlieder. The second half of the program will include Ludwig van Beethoven's immortal Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67.

Walker, a senior Vocal Performance major from Canfield, Ohio, is a 2017 Dana Young Artist Contest Winner. She participated in the South Korean tour with the Dana Chorale in May. She has been seen on the stage most recently as Madame Flora in Menotti's “The Medium” last spring. She also played the role of Despina in YSU's production of “Cosi fan tutte” in 2016. She is an Opera Western Reserve Young Artist and will be seen in the chorus of “Lucia di Lammermoor” on November 10. Upon graduation in December, she hopes to audition for The Air Force Singing Sergeants and the Cincinnati Young Artists program.

Tickets are $7 for adults; $6 for students and senior citizens and free for anyone with a valid YSU ID and are available by phone at 330-744-4269, in person at the DeYor Box Office, at the online box office or at the door.
